Households and small businesses may be eligible for a discount of approximately 30% on the upfront cost of installing a small-scale solar battery. The discount is calculated based on the battery’s usable capacity and will gradually decrease until 2030.
On 13 December 2025, the Australian Government announced an expansion of the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, increasing funding from the originally estimated $2.3 billion to an estimated $7.2 billion over the next four years.
This additional funding will include adjustments (subject to regulations being made) starting 1 May 2026, ensuring that the discount remains appropriate for small, medium, and larger battery systems.
