The Solar Sharer Offer is an optional regulated household electricity plan introduced through reforms to the Australian Government's Default Market Offer.
It gives eligible smart-meter households a daily three-hour period where electricity usage is charged at zero cents per kilowatt-hour, up to the regulated reasonable-use allowance.
The offer is designed for eligible smart-meter households in South Australia. Key requirements include:
Your home must be located in South Australia.
Your household must have a smart meter.
The offer can apply to eligible homeowners and renters.
You do not need rooftop solar to access the offer.
The property must not be supplied through an embedded network.
Your retailer must be required to offer, or choose to offer, the plan.
Households can use timers, smart controls and programmable appliances to move repeatable energy use into the free window.
Schedule washing machines, dryers and dishwashers during the free period.
Where practical, run pool pumps during the free-power window.
Use suitable heating and cooling systems during the daytime window.
Run suitable hot-water systems during the free period where controls allow.
Charge an electric vehicle during the free window when your equipment allows.
Automate repeatable loads using timers and compatible smart controls.
Where the system and retailer rules allow it, a compatible home battery may be scheduled to charge during the free window and discharge later.
Customers should assess the entire electricity plan rather than focusing only on the three-hour free period.
The daily electricity supply charge still applies.
Usage outside 12 pm–3 pm is charged at the plan's applicable rates.
Rates outside the free period may be higher than another available plan.
Usage above the 24 kWh free-period allowance may attract a charge.
