Three hours of regulated free electricity each day for eligible households in South East Queensland.
The Solar Sharer Offer is an optional regulated household electricity plan introduced through reforms to the Australian Government's Default Market Offer.
It gives eligible smart-meter households a daily three-hour period in which electricity usage is charged at zero cents per kilowatt-hour, up to the regulated reasonable-use allowance.
Eligible households can access up to 24 kWh of free electricity during this daily period.
The Solar Sharer Offer is available to eligible households in South East Queensland where the Default Market Offer operates.
Your home must be located in South East Queensland.
You must have a household smart meter.
You can be a homeowner or renter, subject to the applicable requirements.
You do not need rooftop solar to participate.
The property must not be supplied through an embedded network.
Your retailer must be required to offer, or choose to offer, the plan.
Appliances and flexible loads can be scheduled to make better use of 11 AM–2 PM.
Schedule washing machines, dryers and dishwashers during the free period.
Run pool pumps during the free window where appropriate.
Run heating or cooling systems during the free period when appropriate.
Schedule eligible hot-water systems during the free period.
Charge an EV during the free window where your system allows.
Use timers and smart controls to shift repeatable loads automatically.
Where the system and retailer rules allow it, a compatible battery may be scheduled to charge during the free window and discharge later.
The value of a plan depends on your complete household usage, not just the free period.
The daily supply charge still applies.
Electricity used outside the free window is charged at applicable rates.
Rates outside the free period may be higher than another available plan.
Usage above 24 kWh during the free period may attract a charge.
The best plan depends on your complete household electricity usage profile.
