The Victorian Government’s Solar Homes Program helps eligible households reduce the upfront cost of rooftop solar PV and selected hot-water upgrades.
For solar PV, eligible owner-occupiers and rental properties may access a rebate of up to $1,400, with the option of an equivalent interest-free loan, subject to current program rules and available allocations.

For applications submitted from 1 July 2026, the combined household income cap for solar PV and hot-water rebates is $150,000 per year.

The Solar Homes application process generally follows these steps.
Obtain a quote from a Solar Victoria authorised retailer.
The retailer uploads the quote to the Solar Victoria portal.
The customer completes the eligibility application and supplies the required evidence.
Installation proceeds only after the eligibility approval or QR code is issued.
The rebate and any approved loan are paid according to Solar Victoria’s process.
Solar Victoria is no longer accepting applications for its former interest-free solar battery loan. Battery customers may instead consider the Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program and suitable private or government-supported finance options.
Before proceeding, make sure you understand the requirements and potential additional costs.
The rebate does not guarantee that every roof or switchboard is suitable.
Additional costs may apply for switchboard upgrades, difficult access, asbestos, metering, roof repairs or non-standard cabling.
Only eligible products and authorised retailers can participate.
Do not commence installation before completing the required approval process.
Generally, eligible solar PV installations can also receive the federal STC discount. The quote should show how each benefit is treated.
