The Victorian Midday Power Saver is an optional regulated electricity offer that will provide eligible Victorian households with three hours of free electricity every day.
It is intended to help households use more energy when daytime renewable generation is abundant and reduce pressure during evening peak periods.
The offer is scheduled to commence on 1 October 2026. The free-power window will run from 11 am to 2 pm every day, including weekends.
The daily midday window is designed to encourage households to move flexible electricity consumption away from evening peak periods.
Final regulatory arrangements should be confirmed before making a decision about your electricity plan.
Victorian household electricity customers are expected to need a compatible smart meter.
Customers of retailers with 1,000 customers or more, subject to the final regulatory settings.
The offer is expected to apply to households with or without rooftop solar, batteries or electric vehicles.
Shift flexible household loads into the free period where practical and appropriate.
Schedule laundry, dishwashing and electric hot-water heating during the free period.
Charge an electric vehicle or compatible home battery during 11 am to 2 pm.
Pre-cool or pre-heat an efficient home before the evening peak.
Run pool equipment and other flexible loads during the midday window.
Use timers or energy-management systems to automatically shift repeatable loads.
The overall value depends on the complete tariff, your household's consumption profile and how much electricity you can realistically shift into the midday period.
Daily supply charges continue to apply.
Electricity used outside 11 am to 2 pm may be charged at different rates.
Rates outside the free period may be higher than another available electricity plan.
Actual savings depend on how much energy you can shift without increasing total consumption.
A solar household already generates electricity around midday, so the value of the offer may be lower unless it has flexible loads, an electric vehicle or a battery.
A compatible battery may be able to charge from the grid during the free window when solar output is low, then supply the home during higher-priced periods.
The retailer plan and system settings must permit the intended operation.
Solar Link Australia can configure suitable hybrid inverter and battery systems to follow time-based charging and discharging schedules, subject to product capabilities and electricity-plan rules.
